Description

My previous deviantID was SUPER out of date (it was from three years ago!  Almost four!) so I decided to make a new one.  Most importantly, it brings my age and major up-to-date.

Last time I wrote a description for a deviantID it was 1:00 in the morning.  Not to be outdone by myself, I will now try to attempt the same thing at 7:00 in the morning without having had any sleep.

So, my name is Dreyfus.  That isn't my actual name, but it is the name I use online.  The name comes from back in 2006.  I had just recently watched The Pink Panther Strikes Again, so when I found myself making my very first online account I decided to name myself after my favorite character from the film, Former Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus.

These days "Dreyfus" seldom refers to that character.  Instead, it typically refers to my "online representative," Dreyfus Vandolin III.  He is a shapeshifting dragon with ice powers, which is pretty cool!  He has many different forms, but the form pictured above is his "Dragon Partitial," which is halfway between his proper dragon form and his human form.

I am currently (as of spring 2014) a fourth-year undergraduate student studying paleontology as a Zoology major.  I'd like to either be a paleontology professor one day or go into a career in scientific outreach to help the general public better understand science without techno-babble.  When I am not studying or doing other stuff, I give tours to kids at my university's geology museum.  It's pretty great.

Okay, so, let's talk about my art!  I don't really have a definable style; my style developed from drawing better and better stick figures since I was very young, ha ha, so there isn't really anything one can directly compare it to.  I guess the closest thing out there would be a combination of Hayao Miyazaki, The Land Before Time, classic Disney animated films, and a touch of realism.

My favorite things to draw include prehistoric animals, hooved mammals (ooooooooooooh yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!!!!!!), entities from my fictional universe, anthropomorphic animals, centaurs, merpeople, and good ol' Pokemon.  I also doodle a lot of cephalopods, but I don't upload those normally so you don't know that.  Speaking of anthropomorphic animals, I'm not very much of a furry, ha ha (or at least I don't think "proper" furries see me as very much of one), but if I were to associate with one animal it would be Cervus elaphus (the elk/wapiti), even though my favorite animal is by far the okapi.

Most of what I write about is fan-fiction.  Before you get up in arms, it's not the sexual kind of fan fiction that seems to scare the general public these days.  Actually, some of the stuff I've written is pretty popular (such as my Dark Mind series), and is worth checking out if you're bored and want something to read.  My writing style is romanticized and introspective, a mixture of dark plots and nostalgic poetry (took that last bit right off of my last deviantID, and I must say, one of my friends is WAY more poetic than I am so it feels weird to write that).  I've done quite a few Rayman fan-fics, am on hiatus on a Pokemon fan-fic and Majora's Mask novelization, and I completely novelized the second half of Ocarina of Time.  I also on rare occasion do original literature.

I also write music quite a bit.  To tell the truth, these last few years my musical output has VASTLY surpassed my art and prose output, so my deviantART gallery these days gets much less attention than it used to.  Historically I played the oboe, but my current university does not do minors so my oboe minor has more-or-less fizzled up now.

You can find links to my fan-fics and music by following the link on my deviantART profile just underneath this deviantID picture.

My greatest dream is for my characters and worlds to come to life, whether through art, word, or song.  My insignia is the symbol for the Goddess of Life in my fictional universe; I try to include it whenever I can remember, as a sort of tribute in the hopes that one day, my ideas may be experienced equally by all who take interest in them.

I have many, many rolemodels in my life.  The biggest ones (and I'm still leaving out quite a few) are my grandfather (who passed since my last deviantID), Mister Rogers, Carl Sagan, Satoru Iwata, former president Jimmy Carter, and Hayao Miyazaki.

If you would like to know more about me when I was a freshman (it hasn't been updated in a few years), please feel free to have a look over my "About Me" page here: dreyfus2006.deviantart.com/jou…
