Tom Portrait

Although the pose and head of this picture were relatively easy to do, I have very mixed feelings about how the shading and leg anatomy turned out.  I think Tom's calves look a bit too lean.  Also, I learned something last night about hooves that may or may not have made Tom's hooves in this picture anatomically incorrect...but to know that requires further research.

Anyway, this is a picture of Tom made in the same vein as my recent two pictures of Scott Quetzalcoatl and Dreyfus.  The background was soooooooooooooooooo hard to make, I went through maybe 5 scrapped versions before I finally figured out how I made the backgrounds for Scott and Dreyfus' portraits.  Originally I wanted to work in the flags of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Belgium, and the United Kingdom into it (as Tom lives in the UK, his family has strong ties to Belgium, and of course his ancestors came to Europe from Central Africa back in the days of the Belgian Congo), but it just didn't work out, so in the end I just used colors from the Belgian flag.

I definitely don't draw Tom enough (well...historically I have drawn him quite a bit).  Okapia johnstoni (English: Okapi) is my favorite species of animal ever, and it just can't get enough love.  And there certainly are not enough anthro okapis out there.
