This is my entry for the Comically Yours contest
What you see here is an alligator and a macrauchenia. What? You say there's no such thing as a macrauchenia? Too bad, there is. Macrauchenia (pronounced almost like macaroni; "mac-row-key-knee-uh") was an odd-toed ungulate that lived in South America until about 10,000 years ago (Ancient Egypt was around since 5,000 years ago, I think; 5,000 years ago is in the 3,000 BC area, so macrauchenias died off around 8,000 BC). I took the fact that they are extinct as the punchline for the dialogue. Here's what's happening:
Mr. Alligator is sitting at his kitchen table, wondering what to have for breakfast. Suddenly, a macrauchenia walks by and says, "Hello! I'm a macrauchenia! I was extinct, but I've decided to make a comeback." Don't ask how, but there is now 1 macrauchenia on the planet instead of 0. And he's decided to make a comeback! Maybe there will be macrauchenia again? Sadly, Mr. Alligator is thinking otherwise. "Guess what? You're gonna be my breakfast!" 'nough said. Somehow or another, Mr. Alligator did indeed succeed in stuffing the macrauchenia into the toaster. Oh well; so much for his comeback.
Now here's a shocker for you. See that thing on the bottom-right? I didn't draw this!
But don't fret, this isn't art theft. XD No, for the contest we were given five comics with blank word bubbles, and were allowed to add dialogue (and given that there was no information about what was going on, I found it fitting that the macrauchenia should die as compensation; so yes, it was my cruel, evil vengeance). Well, the comic had zero color whatsoever! So I decided, "Hey! I'll spice things up!" So I added color!
Macrauchenia are pretty neat animals. I need one for a character.
They aren't related to camels, nor elephants, nor even tapirs. Kinda weird, eh?
They appear in the second-to-last episode of Walking with Prehistoric Beasts
, in which a herd is at one point attacked by a Saber-Toothed Cat. Macrauchenia was my favorite animal in that episode, along with the Megatherium (giant sloth).
Color and Plot (c) Me. (by the by, I forbid anybody else from using the colored version; if I see it, I WILL report
