Retro Revamps - Dreyfus the Dragon

In September of 2006, a person with a hobby of world building and drawing fantasy and surreal art joined deviantART.  He was a prolific artist, albeit not the most skilled at the craft.  While he began his time on deviantART doing world building, it wasn't very long before he hopped into the anthropomorphic art scene, and from there he quickly began developing his art skills and style.  The biggest breakthrough, the thing that changed everything, happened that year: together with HyperactiveMothMan, he created the Monster Brothers, a vampire and a werefoxdeer that went on many an exciting adventure and danced with danger, wonder, drama, joy, and fear.  HyperactiveMothMan is the creator of Neshae the vampire and has her own story to tell.  I, however, was the creator of the werefoxdeer--Dreyfus Vandolin III--and I owe so many of my teenage memories to him, as well as a great deal of my artistic skill.  Now, he's changed heaps and loads since 2006.  He is WAY less humanoid--in fact, he is a dragon now, not a "werefoxdeer"--and he doesn't go on many adventures.  I can hardly imagine him as a Damsel in Distress like he was back then.  But Dreyfus is without a doubt the driving force of my artistic growth over the last 10 years.  It has been a decade (10 years!) since I joined deviantART that fall.  I don't have a lot of time on my hands to make some cool collage picture of a ton of my characters, and my art skills have gotten very rusty after not drawing much in my undergraduate years, but I figured I had to do something to celebrate.  What I've done is go back and remake the very first picture of Dreyfus ever made (viewable here: dreyfus2006.deviantart.com/art…). I may make some more pictures to celebrate down the road--there are other pillars of my art that deserve recognition--but it seemed fitting to see just how 10 years can change a single piece of art.

Man, do things change.  When I joined deviantART I wanted to be an astronomer, a mycologist, and something else too that I can't remember, all at the same time.  Now I'm studying in graduate school to be a high school teacher and I'm getting married in 8 days.

I'm not nearly as active on deviantART now as I was in my artistic prime.  I am sure many of my friends have moved on to different things, but if you were there in the early days and remember, thanks for being a part of my life.  I can't believe I'm getting married in 8 days!!!!  I've matured a lot, too.  If you go back to the original image, it's like I was a hyperactive child in that description.

It may seem like I have not been active over the summer, but I actually have been drawing quite a bit!  I have a few things to upload, but I am always so busy or distracted that I seldom remember to put them up.  Please keep an eye out--they'll get there eventually.
