Description

Another salvaged project from days long ago, this time one from 2010.  Going through my unfinished 2010 projects, I came across quite a few hidden gems; this was one, but there's a really awesome one that hopefully I will finish up today or tomorrow.

Anyway, the new 2014 additions to this are the eyes, mouth, and roots in the back, along with a bit of touch-ups to the shading here and there and some erasing.  I don't recall what spurred me to make this, but I believe it was some combination of wanting to make wallpaper (this image sizes a perfect 1024x768, the same size as the tablet I had when I originally made this), wanting to practice making a digital painting without outlines (never my strong suit), and wanting to make a picture of Gaia (at the time of starting the project, it had been 2 years since a proper Gaia picture was submitted to deviantART; now, it has been a shocking 6 years).

Since it has been a while, for any newcomers or oldies who need a refresher, Gaia is my Fantasy Universe's Major Goddess of Life.  "Major Goddess" means that she is sort of the "CEO" or "President" of all the gods and goddesses whose domains revolve around life and/or death.  This also makes her queen of the underworld, and her ability to choose on a whim whether one can be alive or not has led her to be a very feared goddess.  During the daytime she exists as a flower perched atop a sphere of souls, but at night that sphere flips upside-down and she herself becomes a ghost flower as she sleeps.  Her husband is Typhon, the Major God of Affiliation and Time.
